Philipsburg-Osceola has gone 9-1 against Huntingdon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mountaineers will face off against the Bearcats at 10:00 a.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Philipsburg-Osceola 3.7, Huntingdon 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, Philipsburg-Osceola made easy work of Central and carried off a 9-3 win. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.
Archer Baughman made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Baughman was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Sam McDonald was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Parker Lamb also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Huntingdon entered their tilt with Bedford on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Bisons with a sharp 10-3 victory.
Like Philipsburg-Osceola, Huntingdon also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Moore. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Moore was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bowden Woodward, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Dom Peruso was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.
Huntingdon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Huntingdon pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Philipsburg-Osceola, their record now sits at 8-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Philipsburg-Osceola hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Huntingdon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Philipsburg-Osceola skirted past Huntingdon 5-4 in their previous matchup back in March. Will the Mountaineers repeat their success, or do the Bearcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
