Mechanicville is a perfect 3-0 against Berlin/New Lebanon since April of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Red Raiders will head out on the road to challenge the Mountain Lions at 4:30 p.m. Mechanicville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Mechanicville took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Hoosic Valley. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Red Raiders considering their two-run performance the matchup before.
Paige Rogers made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mechanicville got a massive performance out of Riley LaPierre, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits LaPierre has posted since back in May of 2024. Brooke Burton was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Mechanicville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .769. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Berlin/New Lebanon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Hoosick Falls, falling 12-4.
Lilly Gardell (RPI) was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Ada Hotaling ?29 also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Berlin/New Lebanon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Mechanicville, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Mechanicville's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's contest. The Red Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Berlin/New Lebanon, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mechanicville continue to outrun the ball?
Mechanicville beat Berlin/New Lebanon 7-2 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
