Softball Recap: Lancaster Takes a Loss

Lancaster had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-9 to make it five. They fell just short of the Dodgeville Dodgers by a score of 6-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dodgers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 back in April.

Maddy Hill spent all 8.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Addison Morgan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Aleah Jackering was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

As for Dodgeville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Dodgeville's side, Ava Lord made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 8.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Lord was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tommi Crubaugh, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lancaster will host Platteville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dodgeville, they will challenge Wisconsin Heights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Dodgers are facing the Vanguards at the right time seeing as the Vanguards are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
