Soccer Recap: Columbia Takes a Loss

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Columbia and Athens, and Athens kept the tradition alive. The Columbia Eagles lost 5-2 to the Athens Golden Eagles on Thursday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Golden Eagles from their previous meeting back in March of 2024.

Cristian Sargento and Alfredo Gordillo scored both of Columbia's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Columbia's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Athens, they moved to 4-6-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Columbia wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next game, a 9-1 victory against New Hope on the 18th. As for Athens, they also didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Hartselle on the 10th.
