Lane Tech has gone a perfect 4-0 against DePaul College Prep recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Champions will square off against the Rams at 4:45 p.m. Lane Tech is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Lane Tech had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Hancock on Thursday. The Champions blew past the Eagles 16-1. The victory continues a trend for the Champions in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won eight in a row.
Chloe Gonzalez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Lane Tech got a massive performance out of Grace Brobson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, Brobson posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Gianna Phillips was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Lane Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, DePaul College Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of De La Salle.
Maddy Poncher and Nell Bansley did some serious damage despite the final result: Poncher scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bansley went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Bansley snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Hamister, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
The win got Lane Tech back to even at 5-5. As for DePaul College Prep, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lane Tech hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like DePaul College Prep struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lane Tech took their victory against DePaul College Prep in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. Will the Champions repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
