Baseball Recap: Clayton Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Clayton proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 18) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Faith Christian Patriots 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Comets have posted since March 25th.

Gabe Schellinger looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one hit in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jamison Lynch was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Cam Bryant was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Clayton has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Faith Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-5.

Coming up, Clayton will host Fuquay - Varina at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Faith Christian, they are taking a road trip to face off against SouthWest Edgecombe at 4:00 p.m. on the 23rd.
