Baseball Recap: Heritage Christian's Winning Streak Snapped at Five Games

Heritage Christian dropped their record down to 7-3 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 13-6 to the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 10-3 to the Golden Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Alex Jackson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run. Another player making a difference was Ethan Utzig, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

As for Guerin Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5. The result was nothing new for the Golden Eagles, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Guerin Catholic's side, Tate Troxell tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Troxell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Daulton Phillips and Karson Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Phillips went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Smith got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Smith is becoming a predictor of Guerin Catholic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Canada, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

While Heritage Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
