Basketball Game Preview: Speedway Sparkplugs vs. Monrovia Bulldogs

The Speedway Sparkplugs will face off against the Monrovia Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Speedway is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.

Speedway is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against North Montgomery on Saturday. The Sparkplugs took down the Chargin' Chargers 60-42.

It was another big night for Drew Matelic, who almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds. His afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Seaver, who posted seven points and three steals.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Monrovia against MTI School of Knowledge on Friday as the team secured a 103-8 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Monrovia's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Speedway, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Speedway came out on top in a nail-biter against Monrovia in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, sneaking past 54-51. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bulldogs' Hayden Mccloud, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards.
