Softball Recap: Avon Comes Up Short

After a string of three wins, Avon's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Walsh Jesuit Warriors by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since April 23, 2025.

Maria Young spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on ten hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 17 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jocelin Ochs made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Avon's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Walsh Jesuit, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will welcome St. Vincent-St. Mary at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Walsh Jesuit, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Washington at 5:00 p.m.
