Softball Recap: Macomb's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Macomb had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over the Orion Chargers on Saturday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bombers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Josie Elbe spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Macomb let Lauren Schmalshof and Kendyl Danner run wild. Schmalshof went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Danner went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Schmalshof a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan Knowles, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Macomb's win bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Orion, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.

Looking ahead, Macomb will challenge Hamilton/Warsaw at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Orion, they have already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Riverdale on the 21st.
