Basketball Recap: Ellwood City Comes Up Short

Ellwood City played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Aliquippa Quips, falling 57-31. While losing is never fun, the Wolverine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while the Quips are ranked 130th).

Despite the loss, Ellwood City still got an impressive performance from Aaron Lake, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 boards. Lake is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Adrian Alvarez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Ellwood City's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Aliquippa, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.

Ellwood City is taking a road trip to take on Freedom Area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ellwood City is facing Freedom Area at the right time seeing as Freedom Area is stuck on a six-game losing streak. Aliquippa has already played their next contest (against Mohawk Area), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
