Basketball Recap: Chicago Academy Piles Up the Points Against North Grand

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Chicago Academy). They blew past the North Grand Eagle Owls 66-4 on Wednesday. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Cougars had established a 53 point advantage.

Chicago Academy had a senior duo take command as Maribel Correa went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points and seven steals and Destiny Rodriguez dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Correa has scored all season. Sariah Arlequin was another key player, putting up seven points and 11 steals.

The win made it two in a row for Chicago Academy and bumps their season record up to 3-4. As for North Grand, they dropped their record down to 2-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Chicago Academy and Golder will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played. Golder's defense has only allowed 22.9 points per game this season, so Chicago Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. After both having extra time off, North Grand and Rickover Naval will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
