Football Game Preview: Southington Blue Knights vs. Greenwich Cardinals + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Ben Beaulieu and Hector Lopez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Southington Blue Knights will be playing at home against the Greenwich Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Southington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They blew past Norwich Free Academy 42-7. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Knights sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

A big part of Southington's victory came down to the chemistry between Luke Prozzo and his top target Rosco Cook. Prozzo threw for 218 yards and three TDs while Cook picked up 79 receiving yards and one touchdown. What's more, Prozzo racked up 117.1 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September.

Meanwhile, Greenwich faced Fairfield Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 31-10 margin over the Jesuits. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with the Jesuits recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Greenwich found their leader in sophomore Lopez, who rushed for 152 yards and a pair of scores.

Greenwich was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 284 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.

Southington's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Greenwich, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Southington barely slipped by Greenwich in their previous matchup back in September of 2022, winning 29-28. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Cardinals' Jack Wilson, who threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for the Blue Knights to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
