Softball Preview: Euclid Panthers vs. Magnificat Blue Streaks
The Euclid Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Magnificat Blue Streaks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Euclid is no doubt hoping to put an end to a 15-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Monday, Euclid came up short against St. Martin de Porres and fell 12-8.
Meanwhile, Magnificat has not done well against St. Joseph Academy recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Magnificat had just enough and edged St. Joseph Academy out 1-0.
The result came thanks to Rachel Witalis's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Kate Hershey was excellent, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with a triple. Vanessa Roth was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Euclid's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Magnificat, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.
