Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Christoval's 11th in Last 14 Outings

Christoval lost to Sonora back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Christoval Cougars came out on top against the Sonora Broncos by a score of 61-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.

Christoval's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bruce Cooper, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 22 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Camdin Balderas, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 17 points along with six boards and six steals.

Christoval smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Sonora lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Evan Arredondo, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Juan Castillo, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 14 points and seven rebounds.

Christoval has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Sonora, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-13.

Coincidentally, Christoval and Sonora will both be playing Eldorado the next time they take the court. Christoval will host Eldorado at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, while Sonora will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th.
