Softball Recap: West Salem Extends Winning Streak to Seven

West Salem waltzed into their match on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Holmen Vikings an 8-0 shutout. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

Josie Brudos made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Elsen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Maclaine Heilman was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

West Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

West Salem pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Holmen, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

As of now, neither West Salem nor Holmen have any future games scheduled.
