Basketball Recap: Independence Takes Down Amanda Elzy in a Playoff Battle

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Independence walked away with it. They managed a 50-46 victory over the Amanda Elzy Panthers on Monday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Panthers are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Independence is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. As for Amanda Elzy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-16.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wildcats challenge the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Belmont will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Independence surely won't give up without a fight. Amanda Elzy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
