Softball Recap: Mars Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Mars's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Penn Hills Indians. The win was some much needed relief for the Fightin' Planets as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Edyn Giammatteo was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mars got a massive performance out of Arianna Hieserich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Callie Simoni was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Mars was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are 2-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The victory was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-7. As for Penn Hills, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Mars will face off against North Hills at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Penn Hills, they will take on Fox Chapel at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
