Football Recap: St. Mary's Starts off Right with Win over Bishop Manogue + How To Watch

St. Mary gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the Bishop Manogue Miners by a score of 51-38. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Rams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 30th in California, while the Miners are ranked fourth in Nevada).

St. Mary's can attribute much of their success to Jaden Galvan, who threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns. That's the most passing touchdowns Galvan has posted since back in September of 2024. Kenneth Moore iii was Galvan's top target, picking up 51 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Another reason for the win was St. Mary's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Luke Lucatello refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. St. Mary's received some extra help from Landon Mcclendon Jr., whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Despite the loss, Bishop Manogue still got an impressive performance from Brandon Mann, who threw for 215 yards and five TDs on only 19 passes, and also rushed for 174 yards on only 12 carries. The Miners' leading receiver Nate Simmons was Mann's top target yet again, picking up 107 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Bishop Manogue's record now sits at 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will welcome Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Bishop Manogue, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rocklin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
