Softball Game Preview: Edison Eagles vs. West Springfield Spartans

The Edison Eagles will face off against the West Springfield Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Edison is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.

Edison is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Robinson 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since April 20th.

The team relied heavily on Katie Fennell, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Caitlin Brickley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, West Springfield had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Wolverines as they made off with a 12-1 win. Considering the Spartans have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

West Springfield got a massive performance out of Layla Muten, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Claire Langan, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Edison's record is now 14-5. As for West Springfield, their record now sits at 19-6.

Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Edison hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .371. However, it's not like West Springfield struggles in that department as they've averaged .382. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
