Baseball Recap: ALA - Anthem South Takes a Loss

ALA - Anthem South extended their losing streak to ten on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They lost 17-7 to the San Tan Foothills Sabercats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Titans of the 23-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Josh Rodriguez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Matthew Cassata also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

As for San Tan Foothills, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 5-15. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On San Tan Foothills' side, Nik Lobanov looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lobanov has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Layton McCombs, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Cody Tipple was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, ALA - Anthem South will challenge Veritas Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.7 runs per game this season, so the Titans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for San Tan Foothills, they will head out to take on Benjamin Franklin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
