Basketball Game Preview: Escalante Moquis vs. Green River Pirates

The Escalante Moquis will challenge the Green River Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Saturday, Escalante was fully in charge, breezing past Telos 61-24. The squad ran away with 50 points in the first half and mostly just sat on those to pick up the victory.

Meanwhile, Green River waltzed into their match on Tuesday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They claimed a resounding 71-40 win over the Panthers. With the Pirates ahead 40-15 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Green River's win came from a few key players Escalante will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Antonio Macias, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Rolando Anguiano, who posted 13 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Green River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Escalante is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points per game. As for Green River, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5.

Escalante was able to grind out a solid win over Green River when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 68-59. Will Escalante repeat their success, or does Green River have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
