Softball Recap: Claremont Wins Going Away Against Walnut

While Claremont didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Walnut Mustangs on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wolfpack, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.

Claremont got a massive performance out of Daneli Becerra, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. Mia Avalos was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Becerra wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Claremont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walnut only managed two hits.

The win made it two in a row for Claremont and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Walnut, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Claremont will face off against Bonita at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Claremont's pitchers better be ready for this one: Bonita has averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Walnut, they will challenge Rowland at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Rowland has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.44 runs per game on average), something Walnut will no doubt try to take advantage of.
