Basketball Game Preview: East Chicago Central Cardinals vs. Delta Eagles

The East Chicago Central Cardinals will square off against the Delta Eagles at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as East Chicago Central comes in on six and Delta on three.

East Chicago Central is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Hanover Central with a sharp 78-55 win. Given the Cardinals' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Wildcats are ranked 185th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dominique Murphy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double with 28 points and nine boards. His afternoon made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Keontaye Bell, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 12 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

East Chicago Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They are 18-3 when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, Delta posted their closest victory since March 9, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian 45-43.

East Chicago Central better keep an eye on Bronson Edwards. He was instrumental in Delta's win, shooting 60% from the field to rack up 19 points and six rebounds. Edwards is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jordan Furney was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Delta's win bumped their record up to 17-7. As for East Chicago Central, their victory bumped their record up to 20-8.
