Basketball Recap: Shasta Takes a Loss

Shasta easily dispatched West Valley last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Shasta Wolves fell just short of the Foothill Cougars by a score of 75-72 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 535th, while the Cougars are ranked 221st).

Foothill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zane Miceli, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 17 points and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Forward, who went 6 of 8 en route to 16 points and six rebounds.

Shasta has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. As for Foothill, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shasta has already played their next match (against Enterprise), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Foothill will head out on the road to square off against Red Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Foothill is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.3 points per game this season.
