Softball Recap: West Panthers vs. East Leopards
West had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-16 to make it four. They lost 16-6 to the East Leopards. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Leopards this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 20-10 back in April.
As for East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. Considering they have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
For East's part, Amaiah Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Garcia a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ana Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Jewelianna Martinez was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for East, they have already played their next contest, a 16-6 win against Skyline on the 7th.
