League recap: Stanley/Powers Lake tops Watford City/Alexander/Johnson Corners Christian Academy to extend winning streak

A Region 3 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Stanley/Powers Lake extended the longest winning streak in A Region 3 this week by beating Watford City/Alexander/Johnson Corners Christian Academy, 29-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

Velva made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,334 from 9,694. The improvement was the result of 44-22 victory over Berthold/Our Redeemer's Christian/North Shore last week.

Des Lacs-Burlington's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Lakers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Austin Schestler has thrown for 544 yards and five touchdowns this season, while Cole Edwards has 17 catches for 174 yards. Andrew Flick leads the league in rushing with 446 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Des Lacs-Burlington takes on the Aggies. At the moment, the Lakers are in fourth, while Velva is in third.

Larry Sandy's team led A Region 3 in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on the Bombers.
