Baseball Recap: Mohave Thunderbirds vs. Cortez Colts

Mohave had to endure an eight-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Cortez Colts 3-1. The victory was just what Mohave needed coming off of a 16-2 loss in their prior contest.

Deegan Perry was incredible, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 1-for-2. Grant Collins was another key contributor, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

On Cortez's side, they saw one different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cesar Ruiz, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Cortez didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with 15 strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mohave only tossed eight.

Mohave's win ended an 18-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-18. As for Cortez, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-14.

Mohave will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Yuma at 3:45 p.m. Yuma will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Mohave surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cortez, they will face off against Northland Prep Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
