Baseball Game Preview: Stonington Bears vs. Bacon Academy Bobcats

Stonington hasn't had much luck against Bacon Academy recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bears will be playing at home against the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Stonington 3.5, Bacon Academy 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Stonington and Griswold had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Bears came out on top against the Wolverines by a score of 6-2 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now won four in a row.

Sean Durham made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Brayden Wolfradt and Nick Cannella did most of the damage at the plate: Wolfradt went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI, while Cannella went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs Cannella has posted since back in March.

Stonington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Bacon Academy's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ledyard a 3-0 shutout.

Stonington's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bacon Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
