Softball Recap: Hidden Valley Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Hidden Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They skirted past the Henley Hornets 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since March 28th.

Scarlett Gordon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mady Knable, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Aubree Schmidt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Hidden Valley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive games.

Hidden Valley pushed their record up to 18-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Henley, they moved to 13-5 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.

Hidden Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Hornets: the pair will be back at it again later today.
