Softball Recap: Bound Brook Find Success

Bound Brook let Mount St. Mary Academy stack four runs on them in the third inning on Thursday but luckily Bound Brook prevailed anyway. The Crusaders narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Lions 7-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 3-2 back in April.

Isabella Marusiak made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kathy Reyes, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Mia Marusiak was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Bound Brook's victory bumped their record up to 11-14. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Bound Brook will head out to face off against Bridgewater-Raritan at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, they will challenge Scotch Plains-Fanwood at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
