Baseball Recap: Merritt Island Finds Playoff Glory Versus Eau Gallie

It's playoff time, and Merritt Island had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Eau Gallie Commodores on Thursday as they made off with a 12-1 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won ten contests by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Asher Anderson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in ten consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Chase Burns looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Bailey, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Jayce Brandes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Merritt Island always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eau Gallie only posted an OBP of .296.

The win (which was Merritt Island's seventh in a row) raised their record to 21-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Eau Gallie, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-8.

As of now, neither Merritt Island nor the Commodores have any future games scheduled.
