Walla Walla and Kennewick are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Walla Walla is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
Walla Walla fell victim to Southridge and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Suns, falling 11-0. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Kennewick hadn't done well against Chiawana recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lions put the hurt on the Riverhawks with a sharp 18-7 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won 11 games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Rylee Bendewald was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Sparhawk, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Kennewick is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Walla Walla, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Walla Walla hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Kennewick struggles in that department as they've averaged .402. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
