Basketball Game Preview: Jellico Blue Devils vs. Midway Green Wave

The Jellico Blue Devils will face off against the Midway Green Wave at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Jellico's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches.

Jellico will head into Tuesday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 37-point drubbing they dealt Coalfield on Tuesday. Jellico took their contest with ease, bagging an 89-52 win over Coalfield. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 25 points or more this season.

Jellico can attribute much of their success to Trey Vann, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds, and Caleb Rose, who shot 7-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine boards. Vann's evening made it 15 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Dabney, who posted 14 points.

Jellico was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Meanwhile, Midway hadn't done well against Sweetwater recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Midway enjoyed a cozy 63-48 victory over Sweetwater. Winning may never get old, but the Green Wave sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Jellico pushed their record up to 11-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Midway, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Jellico came up short against Midway when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 83-79. Can Jellico avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
