Baseball Game Preview: Ballston Spa Scotties vs. La Salle Institute Cadets

The Ballston Spa Scotties will head out on the road to challenge the La Salle Institute Cadets at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The last three games Ballston Spa has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Ballston Spa fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Bethlehem Central on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The loss continues a trend for them in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Kyle Fives was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ballston Spa saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Pritchard, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. Another was Doug Chamberlain, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, La Salle Institute got the win against Guilderland on Thursday by a conclusive 8-2. Considering the Cadets have won four games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory made it two in a row for La Salle Institute and bumps their season record up to 7-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Ballston Spa, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 8-1.

Ballston Spa skirted past La Salle Institute 9-8 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Scotties since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
