Basketball Game Preview: Berthoud Spartans vs. Wellington Eagles

The Berthoud Spartans will head out to challenge the Wellington Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Berthoud is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season.

Berthoud will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Roosevelt, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Berthoud came out on top against Roosevelt by a score of 66-57 on Tuesday. The Spartans didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Ryan Callies went supernova for Berthoud, going 8-for-18 to rack up 27 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Callies a new career-high in points. Isaac Erickson was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Meanwhile, Wellington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 40th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by Severance 65-30. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Silver Knights are ranked 60th).

Wellington's defeat dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Berthoud, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.

Everything came up roses for Berthoud against Wellington when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured a 90-50 victory. In that game, Berthoud amassed a halftime lead of 43-23, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
