Softball Recap: Paradise Valley Comes Up Short

Paradise Valley extended their losing streak to nine on Monday, dropping them down to 1-13. They lost 25-15 to the North Canyon Rattlers. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (11), the Trojans still had to take the loss.

Lucia Cerino stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chance Alvic, who earned two RBI, two runs, and three stolen bases.

As for North Canyon, with the victory, they broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-11. Their offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last five games.

On North Canyon's side, Isis Quintana and Madison Kirby did most of the damage at the plate: Quintana got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one triple, while Kirby went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI. Those four runs gave Quintana a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Arly Gomez Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Paradise Valley will venture away from home to square off against Canyon View at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. North Canyon will be paying especially close attention to Paradise Valley's game: after Paradise Valley faces off against Canyon View, they'll take on North Canyon again at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
