Volleyball Recap: St. Albans Takes a Loss

St. Albans was the 2-1 winner over Hurricane when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Red Dragons fell just short of the Redskins by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The Red Dragons' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

St. Albans started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-17, 15-13.

Ellah Smith paced St. Albans' offense, picking up nine kills. Smith got some help from Morgan McVicker and her 16 assists. Finally, Smith was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high seven blocks.

Hurricane found their leader in sophomore Sloane Mcclellan, who had eight digs and two aces.

St. Albans' defeat dropped their record down to 20-14. As for Hurricane, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-18-2.

St. Albans wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 victory against Wayne on the 16th. As for Hurricane, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Poca on the 14th.
