Baseball Recap: Foothill Comes Up Short

Foothill and Red Bluff squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Foothill had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 2-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost seven in a row.

Kayden Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Foothill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cander Pursell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Foothill's loss dropped their record down to 11-15. As for Red Bluff, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-11 record this season.

Foothill and Red Bluff are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Cougars will square off against Pleasant Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Red Bluff, they will take on Chico at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight.
