Baseball Recap: Monroe Central's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Monroe Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Barnesville Shamrocks 4-3. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Seminoles as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Monroe Central let Prestin Binegar and Drew Landefeld run wild. Binegar went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Landefeld went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Binegar a new career-high. Caedyn Silva also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Monroe Central's record now sits at 9-17. As for Barnesville, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-10.

Coming up, Monroe Central will be taking part in a tournament against Malvern at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Barnesville, they will head out to square off against Shenandoah at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Zeps have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.17 runs per game on average), something the Shamrocks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
