Baseball Recap: Apopka Takes a Loss

Apopka has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.43 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They fell just short of the Lake Nona Lions by a score of 11-9. The Blue Darters were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lions apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.

Camron Pennock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Collin VanFleet was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Nicolas Posluszny was another key player, scoring a run.

Apopka's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Lake Nona, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 10-7 record.

The future could be bright for both Apopka and Lake Nona: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Apopka will try to hand East River their third-straight loss when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on March 24th. Similarly, Lake Nona will look to extend Innovation's three-game losing streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on March 26th.
