Rockledge is 8-2 against Astronaut since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Raiders will head out to face off against the War Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Astronaut took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Rockledge, who comes in off a win.
Rockledge can't be too worried about heading out to take on Astronaut: they just beat Space Coast at home, who had been dominant on their own field up to that point. The Raiders walked away with an 8-5 win over the Vipers on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Raiders as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Haley Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Rockledge let Haylie Miller and Aubrey Rhoades run wild. Miller scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Rhoades scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most runs Miller has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylah Comeau, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Rockledge hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Astronaut fell victim to Winter Springs and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. The War Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Astronaut saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elka Koziana, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Koziana hit this season.
Rockledge's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Astronaut, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Rockledge has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Astronaut struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Rockledge beat Astronaut 9-5 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
