Basketball Recap: Westlake Snags Ninth Win in Last 12 Games

Westlake won the last time they faced Normandy and things went their way on Monday too. The Westlake Demons secured a 44-39 W over the Normandy Invaders. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Demons.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Westlake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Husneya Najjar, who went 5 of 9 en route to 14 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Najjar a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ella Henton, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 15 points and three steals.

Westlake was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Normandy only racked up four assists.

Normandy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sofia Szymczak, who posted eight points and three steals, and Ziley Minich, who went 6 of 15 en route to 14 points and three steals. Szymczak continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsay Meriwether, who earned four points and four steals.

Westlake has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Normandy, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7.

Westlake has already played their next game (against Buckeye), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Normandy has also has no score uploaded for their next contest, this one against North Olmsted.
