League recap: Swain County extends winning streak with victory over Murphy

Swain County extended the longest winning streak in 1A Smoky Mountain this week by beating Murphy, 21-7. The victory was the 11th in a row for the Maroon Devils.

Hayesville took down Andrews 35-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Zach Wall threw for 92 yards and one touchdown and ran for 18 yards in the win.

The Yellowjackets' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Caleb Nuklolls chipped in 119 yards. Dylan Williams helped Hayesville's passing attack out by catching one ball for 29 yards.

Chris Rhinehardt was the best wideout in the league this week as Hayesville topped the Wildcats. Rhinehardt tallied one reception for 44 yards.

Swain County's Ray Smith and Greg Tisho have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 1332 yards this season, while Tisho, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 33 catches for 779 yards. Ernie Hughes' team's Nuklolls leads the league in rushing yards with 671.

A big matchup in 1A Smoky Mountain this week will be when the Bulldogs take on Cherokee. At the moment, Murphy is in second, while the Braves are in sixth.

The Yellowjackets made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,322 from 10,031. The improvement was the result of 35-7 victory over Andrews last week.
