Baseball Recap: Fullerton Wins Going Away Against Woodrow Wilson

It's playoff time, and Fullerton had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Woodrow Wilson Bruins with a sharp 8-2 victory on Thursday.

Fullerton got a great performance from Declan Fitzgerald as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Fitzgerald has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Zach Fany was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Meni, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Fullerton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Fullerton is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Woodrow Wilson, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-10.

Looking ahead, Fullerton will square off against Paraclete at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spirits will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight. Woodrow Wilson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
