Basketball Recap: Box Elder Comes Up Short

Box Elder was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a blow against the Hays-Lodge Pole Thunder Birds, falling 71-40. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Thunder Birds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Martay Stiffarm-Rosette and Kise Seaton certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Stiffarm-Rosette posted 24 points along with seven boards and seven steals, while Seaton put up 14 points. That was a full 60% of Box Elder's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Box Elder smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Box Elder now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Hays-Lodge Pole, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Box Elder will square off against Turner at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hays-Lodge Pole, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Box Elder at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st.
