Salina Central hadn't done well against Eisenhower recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Mustangs put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 8-1 win. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Sophia Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Valerie VanZant was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Gordon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Salina Central's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-4. As for Eisenhower, they moved to 3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Coming up, Salina Central will challenge Hutchinson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in the Mustangs' favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while the Salthawks have been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. As for Eisenhower, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Bishop Carroll at 4:00 p.m. on May 15.
