Preview: Mountain View Spartans vs. Los Gatos Wildcats

The Mountain View Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Los Gatos Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mountain View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.

Mountain View suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Thursday. They fell just short of Palo Alto by a score of 45-43.

Despite the loss, Mountain View had strong showings from Alex Cunningham, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Jayden Minor, who scored 16 points along with five assists and two steals. Minor is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Jaden Feller was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with four blocks.

Meanwhile, Los Gatos waltzed into their game on Saturday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They snuck past Palo Alto with a 50-45 victory. Given Los Gatos' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Palo Alto is ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mountain View has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-7 record this season. As for Los Gatos, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

Mountain View came up short against Los Gatos in their previous matchup on January 3rd, falling 49-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Los Gatos' Anthony Martin, who scored 12 points along with six steals. Now that Mountain View knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
