Baseball Recap: Augusta Beavers vs. Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs

Augusta had lost 17 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 1-13 to make it 18. They lost 13-0 to the Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-4 back in April.

As for Melrose-Mindoro, their record is now 14-5. Considering they have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Melrose-Mindoro's part, Brett Peterson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Peterson a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Looking ahead, Augusta will challenge Whitehall at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Norse will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Beavers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Melrose-Mindoro, they will square off against Eleva-Strum at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Cardinals have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
