Baseball Recap: Hertford County Takes a Loss

Hertford County extended their losing streak to 14 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 1-17 in the process. They lost 16-2 to the Manteo Redskins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Redskins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-0 on Tuesday.

As for Manteo, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Manteo's part, Tanner Sawyer was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four hits gave Sawyer a new career-high. Landon Saywer was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Looking ahead, Hertford County will square off against Currituck County at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Knights will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight. As for Manteo, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Camden County at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th.
